David York is a magna cum laude graduate of Oklahoma City University where he earned a BMus in vocal music education and voice performance. He obtained a MST in conducting and teaching at Portland State University in 1985. David has composed for orchestra, chamber ensembles, chorus, electronic instruments, piano, and solos for voice and various instruments. He has been awarded commissions from Fear No Music, Oregon Repertory Singers, Desert Voice in Phoenix, South Florida Lambda Chorale, Detroit Men's Chorus, and most recently, the Portland Gay Men's Chorus to name a few. In addition to serving as Artistic Director of the Concord Community of Choirs, David directs the choir at Living Enrichement Center in Wilsonville, Oregon (lecworld.org). Expecting to graduate in Fall of 2000, David is pursuing a PhD in music composition and theory at the University of Oregon. His dissertation project is to compose an opera which tells the Biblical love story of "Jonathan and David." Future plans are to establish a music academy for children with an emphasis on composition and choral music performance.

David York Ensemble is a select choir of accomplished musicians whose mission is to present inspired performances of choral masterpieces and new works that resonate in mind, body, and soul. Originally named Concord Choir, the Ensemble was formed in 1986 by David York as a vehicle for producing new music. "Return of the Light", a winter solstice celebration written by York in 1990, incorporates live choir with state of the art visual effects of a planetarium show and has become a seasonal highlight at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Mother of Us All, a collaborative project by poet, Judith Barrington and composer, David York is a contemporary oratorio honoring the female aspects of the spiritual and natural worlds. A professionally produced recording featuring Ursula LeGuin as the prophetic narrator, Obo Addy on African drums, and vocalist Linda Hornbuckle, is available for purchase.

David York Ensemble is the premiere choir of the Concord Community of Choirs, a consortium of nine distinct choirs with a singular mission: to produce quality choral music as an instrument of peace for our audience and ourselves through a community of choirs. To celebrate the millennium, all the choirs within this organization have collaborated to produce a compact disc recording entitled "Human Family" released on January 28, 2000 at a combined performance in Portland, Oregon.
