Lawrence R. McCoombe, born January 2, 1943 ñ died December 17, 2001, began his musical career as a choir director at seventeen. He attended Temple University, graduating with top honors, and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in 1964. After graduation, he taught elementary education in Long Island for four years.
He attended the Philadelphia Divinity School, graduating with honors in Biblical languages and Preaching, with a Master's Degree in Divinity in 1971. He became the curate of St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Long Island, where he continued to compose music for his church choir.
He was Vicar (and Director of Music) at St. Cuthbert's Episcopal Church in Long Island from 1975 through 1981. He composed and directed several 3-part anthems for his choir and an Easter cantata, Meaning and the Man. From 1983 to 1990 he was the choir director of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Medford.
Larry's first composition The Lord is my Light, was published in 1969. A Polish Christmas Carol, Sleep Little Jesus was published in Polish in 1994. Larry's daughter, Kristen, inspired the hauntingly beautiful, One White Candle, performed for the first time by the Cinnaminson Community Chorus in December 1996.
Other compositions range from a Requiem Mass to the tongue-in-cheek A Christmas Card from your Ex-Wife.
