Robert F. Mansell
Robert Mansell was born in England towards the end of the second world war. His mother was English and his father was a British naturalized refugee from Hitler's anschluss into Austria. He took piano lessons as a child and showed interest in composing music even at a young age, but his musical education was not continued to a more advanced level until later in his life. His mixed European blood and the fact that he is largely self taught may explain the lyrical romantic style of most of his chromatically rich music.
Mansell has resided in the United States for the last twenty years. His music is mainly traditional and tonal: he wishes that it appeal immeadiately and lastingly to the ear, believing that music is a sensual experience to be enjoyed by the heart as much as the head.
