Jonathan Cole a composer, conductor, musical director and pianist. He received his formal musical training as a scholarship student of the piano at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. His piano instructors included Theadore, Lettvin, Jeannene Dowis, and Victor Rosenbaum. He held a musical instructor position from 1981 - 1984 at Birmingham Southern College as well as the Musical Director of the Omaha Playhouse, where he composed the score for Will Cather's My Antonia.

Cole's other orchestral scores include Macbeth, produced by The Nebraska Shakespeare Festival and Julius Caesar produced by The Playhouse as part of the International Fest Of Theatre. Other original scores for theatre include Conestoga Stories, Ichabod both published by Anchorage Press and Alice, A Curious Adventure, Take the Sky, and Spa (A Very Hot Musical). His musicalConestoga Storieswas named as "one of the top ten musicals for youth in the country".

Cole lived for many years in Omaha, Nebraska and while living there was commissioned by the River City Men's Chorus to compose his AIDS cantata Ye Shall Come Out with Joy (YR3700). Jonathon died of AIDS in 1999.
